Jay-Z updates

October 8, 2006

Like I stated before (I refering to me Anita Applebum), Jay-Z’s post-retirement album Kingdom Come will be released sometime this November. Jay-Z’s first single  "Show me what you got" has been unoficially leaked/ officially released (with marketing in this day and age..everything is a strategic move. Who knows what’s really the definition of "leaked" is.)  So go DL it..it’s pretty hot.

Speaking of heat, apparently while Jay-Z and Nas were performing their classic hit Dead Presidents 2 (history break: Jay-Z Reasonable Doubt, Nas sample "The World is Yours") in the UK, Nas reportedly sliped in "Dead Presidents…like George F-ing Bush…"….LOL…tryin to pull a Ye I see.. BTW I can’t wait to hear Dead Presidents 3, on the new album. Check out www.blog.myspace.com/afterschoolsnack for the Track List!

that’s all for now

More Free Shows!

August 22, 2006

OK folks,

Those of you living in New York City know that one of the best things about being here in the summer (besides the abundance of shaved ice carts and mangos on a stick..mmmm) is the many opportunities to see free shows! In addition to the free Beyonce show-Thanks for the heads up Anita-there are many free shows left to see. Catch them before the summer is over!

River to River Fest:
Co-Sponsored by Pace University, there are a few gems left on the agenda of this summer long concert series including my personal fav Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. Good old Ted will be playing on Aug. 25th at 6:00 pm at the South Street Seaport. I’ll be working at the Jose Alberto show on September 7th. River to River runs until the September 10th.

East River Park Amphitheater
There have been shows running here all summer too, hosted by the east river music project. I saw an excellent show with Mobius Band and Meneguar earlier this summer and there are two shows left. Better get them before they’re over!

There is a show at the same venue this saturday, aug. 26th featuring a bunch of good bands including a Pace graduate’s band Sh-sh-sh-shark attack. Go for some sweet surf sounds on the east river!

McCarren Park Pool Parties
If you guys haven’t checked out this series yet, no better time than now! There are only two more weeks left of this excellent series. Next week The Walkman, Dr. Dog and Human Television. Who could ask for more? Look for me there too, I’ll be the one asking for your money.

See your favorite stars in NYC

August 20, 2006

Okay guys…for all ya’ll Usher fans, starting August 22nd, Usher will star as Larry Flynn in Oscar-Award winning play Chicago…I must say I love this damn play…and I’m getting ready to put on the movie right now.

The Fantasia Barrino story premieres tonight on Lifetime and I am watching it as I write. It’s pretty good…Fantasia had a hard life, I am proud of her. So I guess I’ll put on Chicago after Fantasia.

Beyonce will have a free concert on September 8, apart of the Good Morning America series…so if you have class, get up early, cuz you know it’s going to be packed in Bryant Park.

Last week the show was AWESOME! Of Montreal closed the show an excellent cover of Gnarls Barkley’s "Crazy" which certainly riled the crowd. Asobi Seksu, Irving, and Enon also rocked the house. Or pool that is.

Pharrell and Kanye West perform.

Me and my highschool friends ventured to Bryant Park at 6 this morning to see Good Morning’s Free Concert series featuring  producers turned rappers, Pharrell and Kanye West. For a free concert, it was pretty dope. They performed Number 1 off of new Pharrell album In My Mind. They also sang Drop It Like It’s Hot, and Frontin’ featuring a verse from Gold Digger. Then me and my girl walked 10 blocks to see it all over again at the CBS Early Morning Show (mad groupie status, but it wasn’t on purpose–trust!). Check out my Myspace for pics… but here’s a teaser. The CBS performance airs August 26th I believe, if I’m not mistaken. SPREAD LOVE!

Amanda sees Mindless Self Indulgence

July 24, 2006

i saw mindless self indulgence at starland ballroom in nj…it was off the hook! the lead singer jimmy urine shaved some pretty boy’s head, and he was way out there…too many people tho, left the concert covered in several hundred different people’s sweat, ugh…but it was a total gender-bender :) i love that band they have a special place in my black little heart…no one does music like them…
